An alleged attempt to murder a local LDP worker has been reported in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district, leaving the victim critically injured and sparking concern among residents.
The victim, identified as Mohammad Rashed, a resident of Batgram village under Amishapara union in Sonaimuri, was reportedly attacked by a group of assailants while he was walking along a road with his father-in-law on March 10, 2021, at around 4:00 PM.
According to eyewitnesses and family members, Rashed had been staying at his father-in-law’s residence due to security concerns and fear of threats allegedly posed by local Awami League activists. During the incident, a group of attackers allegedly ambushed him using locally made weapons and sharp instruments with the intention of killing him.
Rashed’s father-in-law was also injured while trying to protect him during the assault. The attackers reportedly fled the scene after leaving Rashed in a critically wounded condition. The incident created panic among local residents.
Rashed’s wife claimed that he had previously been targeted in similar attacks and demanded justice for the assault. She urged local residents, the wider public, and the administration to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
When contacted, members of the administration declined to comment on the matter.
